the zombie apocalypse

No, this isn't about zombies, per se.  At least not any of the film version zombies.  Rather, it's what popped out of my mouth when a coworker was telling me about the girl that had filmed her sister dying after they were in a automobile crash. “This is the zombie apocalypse everyone talks about.”  

Okay, you may not talk about it, nor know anyone that talks about it, but zombies are way hot currently.  Personally, I will always be more of a vampire girl, but that could be generational or just my own peculiarities.
 
The point of my blurt was that we, as a society, have become numb to tragedy and violence and horrific happenings.  Okay, you already knew this.  But add to that the instant gratification mobile devices have given us.  Throw in the celebrity worship, the lives that look like reality TV, the hunger for fame, even if it's for reprehensible and unbelievable things.  And then there's the sharing of every minutiae of our lives just because we can.

The zombies are here, among us, blindly following the scent of attention and views and likes and the possibility of going viral. The girl filming her sister really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.  It was going to happen at some point.  The lure of Andy Warhol's fifteen minutes of fame* is simply too strong.

*Fifteen minutes of fame is short-lived media publicity or celebrity of an individual or phenomenon.
